How should I prepare for my first visit?

You will be moving around during your assessment.

Pack Any Supportive Material

What can I expect for my first three visits?

Visit One: Initial Chiropractic Assessment

During your first visit, we will:

  1. Gather a comprehensive health history to understand your body's current state of health

  2. Conduct a physical assessment of your spine and nervous system

  3. Discuss your goals and chief complaint

  4. Decide if you'll need any x-rays or a referral to another practitioner for additional testing

  5. Address any initial questions you have about chiropractic or acupuncture care

You will not receive treatment during your first visit because:

  • You may require additional testing that needs to be reviewed prior to treatment

  • We still need to go over the informed consent process

We want to make sure we have adequate time to address all aspects of your health history and complete a thorough physical assessment. It is important that we have an opportunity to educate you on your diagnosis and care plan prior to delivering any treatment.

Before leaving the clinic, you will be scheduled for the following two appointments: the Report of Findings and Program of Care.

Visit Two: Report of Findings

During your Report of Findings, you can expect to:

  • Receive an explanation of your current condition and my proposed treatment plan

  • Have the opportunity to ask and discuss further questions or concerns

  • Review, discuss and sign one or both of the chiropractic and acupuncture consent forms

  • Receive your first treatment!

Visit Three: Program of Care

Your third visit is about reassessing your body to see how it has responded to your first treatment. From this assessment, we will come up with the necessary frequency and duration of care.

How many sessions will I need to feel better?

Each individual is different. We must discuss your health history, perform a physical examination, and assess how your body responds to your first treatment before understanding your duration of care.

Your initial frequency and duration of care will depend on factors such as the problems identified, their severity, and the goals you want to achieve. With all cases, my objective is to get exceptional results as efficiently and affordably as possible.

Adhering to your suggested frequency and duration of care is the most crucial factor to seeing faster results. When you begin chiropractic care, each treatment builds off the last one to create a foundation and help your body get to your goal. When you skip your adjustments, it is difficult to get the momentum required to make a physiological change. Therefore, it will take longer for you to see the desired results.

To help keep you on track with your care plan and allow you to secure the dates and times that you prefer, we suggest scheduling out your initial plan of care after your third visit.

Is chiropractic care safe during pregnancy?

Yes! As your body changes throughout pregnancy, so will your chiropractic care.

I am trained in pregnancy-specific chiropractic techniques to ensure that your care is safe and effective throughout each trimester.

Additionally, our chiropractic tables adjust to ensure that you can safely and comfortably lay face down during your adjustment.

There are many benefits to receiving chiropractic care throughout pregnancy, including:

  • Relief of discomfort and pain;

  • Easier and more comfortable movement; and

  • Optimising the body for the birth process and postpartum recovery

How old or young can you be to receive chiropractic care?

It is never too early or too late to receive chiropractic care. I adjust patients of all ages, from newborns to seniors.

Often, spinal stress occurs early on in life, whether during the birthing process or developmental milestones such as learning to walk or ride a bicycle.

An infant spinal check-up is an excellent, proactive way to identify any spinal stress areas and correct them early on before symptoms are present.

What are the risks of chiropractic care?

Chiropractic care is non-invasive and extremely safe for patients of all ages.

As with any manual therapy, including massage therapy and physiotherapy, the most common risk you will find on your consent form is a temporary worsening of symptoms. This means that there is a possibility that you may feel sore after treatment. This is completely normal, especially at the beginning of your care plan as your body adjusts to chiropractic care.

Before any treatment is provided, we will discuss the risks and benefits of our treatment plan. You will be encouraged to voice any questions or concerns that you may have.

Informed consent and patient education are always at the forefront of your care plan.

What can I expect from an acupuncture treatment?

Acupuncture involves the insertion of ultra-fine needles in target sites along the body.

In most cases, patients report that they barely feel the needles during their treatment.

In areas of the body where there are more nerve endings, such as hands and feet, a small pinch may be felt on insertion, followed by a dull ache. These sensations typically disappear after a few seconds.

Acupuncture should never feel painful, and as such, we will remove any points causing discomfort.

The number of needles used in an acupuncture treatment ranges from one needle to upwards of twenty needles, depending on the condition that we are working on. Similarly, we can leave these points in for a few seconds or up to twenty minutes.

We may choose to incorporate electrical stimulation into the treatments.

There are many benefits to receiving acupuncture treatment, including:

  • Pain modulation

  • Tissue healing

  • Relief from trigger points, muscle tension and stress

Does chiropractic care hurt?

No! Getting adjusted should never hurt. In fact, many people report an immediate sense of relief after an adjustment.

The Chiropractic care that you receive will always be based on your individual needs, as well as your preferences.

Rest assured, there are many options for adjusting techniques. Together, we will ensure that you feel at ease, confident and comfortable with your care.
